Pandit Ram Sahai Sangit Vidyalaya was started in the UK by Dr Frances Shepherd and Pandit Sharda Sahai in 1987. Along with its subsidiary trust Pandit Ram Sahai Foundation, its work is designed to meet the current needs for generating and understanding Indian Music.
PRSSV's Sangeet College is a unique centre of learning for Indian Classical Music and Dance because of its strong sense of community which provides an inspiring environment for students to learn from teachers as well as each other. The college offers an interactive style of teaching, where equal emphasis is placed on learning to perform as well as the theory behind the particular art form. The college has a team of highly qualified teachers that teach all year round.
Since then, hundreds of children have learned and appreciated Indian music and dance at various centres in London including a number of schools in West, North West and North London.
The musical instruments taught at Sangeet College include Tabla, Sitar and Harmonium. We also teach Hindustani and Carnatic vocal music. Sangeet College teaches classical Indian dances, especially Kathak.
Sangeet College students have perfomed at many prestigious venues and occasions including Horniman Musuem, V&A Museum and London Mela.
PRSSV's Sangeet Examinations are structured to test the ability of the pupil at every level, starting with Grade 1 for a beginner and progressing to Grade 8 for an advanced level. A diploma course is available to those wishing to study further.
Pandit Ram Sahai Sangit Vidyalaya is pleased to announce that its examinations have now been officially validated by the Open College Network Credit4Learning.
This validation is evidence that PRSSV examinations are audited to the same standard, quality and expectations as a GCSE or A Level, and are therefore recognised nationally. This is great news for all students of Indian Dance and Music!
